Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of AlibiCat (“the Game”, “we”, “us”), a free browser-based logic puzzle game operated by an independent developer. By playing the Game or creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Game.
1. The Game
AlibiCat is a deduction puzzle: you read the suspects’ statements, place every cat on the floor plan and identify the culprit. It is free to play, contains no advertising and no in-game purchases. You can play without an account; an optional account lets you save and sync your progress across devices.
2. Accounts
- You may create an account with an email address and password, an email sign-in link, or by signing in with Google.
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to create an account.
- Provide an email address you control and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- One account per person. Do not share, sell or transfer your account.
- You can delete your account at any time by contacting us (section 9). Deletion is permanent and includes your cloud saves.
3. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to other players’ accounts or data, or to our systems;
- interfere with the Game’s operation, for example by flooding it with automated requests;
- use the Game to transmit malware, spam or unlawful content;
- circumvent or disable any security or access-control feature;
- misrepresent your identity or your relationship with us.
Looking at how the puzzles are generated, or using the Game for education and streaming, is fine.
4. Intellectual property
The Game — including its characters, scene artwork, names, texts, puzzle generator, level designs and code — is original work owned by the operator of AlibiCat. Puzzles are generated deterministically from seeds and are part of the Game.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to play the Game for non-commercial purposes. Except where permitted by law or by a separate open-source licence attached to specific code, you may not copy, redistribute, sell or create derivative works from the Game’s artwork, characters or texts. Screenshots and video of your own play sessions, including monetised streams, are welcome.
Sudoku-style logic puzzles are a genre, not our invention; we claim no rights over the underlying puzzle idea. Any third-party trademarks mentioned (such as Google) belong to their respective owners.
5. Your content and data
The only data you provide is your account information and your game progress. How we handle it is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. You keep ownership of your data; you grant us permission to store and process it solely to run the Game for you.
6. Availability and changes
The Game is provided free of charge. We may change, add or remove features, puzzles or language versions, and may suspend or discontinue the Game or the account feature at any time. Where reasonably possible we will give notice inside the Game before shutting down cloud saves so you can note your progress. We may also update these terms; the effective date above will change and continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
The Game is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted availability, or that saved progress will never be lost. It is a hobby project; please treat it accordingly.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data or progress, arising from your use of or inability to use the Game. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the Game, which is zero. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer-protection law grants you and that cannot be waived by contract.
9. Termination and contact
We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms. You may stop using the Game at any time. Questions about these terms, or requests to delete an account, can be sent to support@alibicat.com.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the operator of AlibiCat resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the mandatory consumer law of your own country of residence applies instead.
